Mixing Metals

Mixing Metals

Nicole and I spent some time with Allison from Style Inform on the weekend out at her wholesale furniture showroom. Together we did a short Instagram Live video (trial and error) to help people understand how to mix metal finishes in their home. You can watch the video on our IGTV channel @knightvarga!

Mixing metal finishes will create a curated, timeless interior that looks like it has been collected over time.

The general rule of thumb when introducing metal into your home is the 80/20 rule - pick one finish that will be dominant and 1-2 or more as accents. Take into consideration the colour of your plumbing fixtures, lighting and hardware.

The dominant metal in this kitchen is black as seen in the La Cornue range, wall ovens, pendants and accessories. The secondary metal is stainless steel - cabinet hardware and faucet. The brass is only on the range, and still mixed with black (dominant) and stainless (secondary).

In this living room we have a mix of gold and black. Gold can be found on the lighting, mirror, fireplace screen and art frames. Black is on the lamp shades, art, frames, and coffee table.

Another great example of black and gold
